While music therapy goals and objectives vary widely according to client populations and needs, my primary mission as a music therapist is to help individuals reach their greatest health & wellbeing potential through participation in music activities. These music activities include instrumental and vocal improvising, songwriting, movement to music and receptive listening.

I am passionate about working with…

  • Anybody who wishes to improve their health & wellbeing through participation in music
  • Youth who face psycho-social and emotional challenges
  • Seniors who face cognitive, physical and emotional challenges

What is music therapy?

Music therapy is a discipline in which credentialed professionals use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains (Canadian Association of Music Therapists, 2018).

Where do music therapists work?

Music therapists work in psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitative facilities, medical hospitals, outpatient clinics, day care treatment centers, agencies serving persons with developmental disabilities, community mental health centers, drug and alcohol programs, senior centers, nursing homes, hospice programs, correctional facilities, halfway houses, schools, and private practice (AMTA, 2018).
